Paper Makes Wisconsin Great!

Do you want to learn about the papermaking process, the history of the industry, the industry's contributions to the state economy and its commitment to the environment? 

PMWGPaper Makes Wisconsin Great is a multi-media, educational kit especially suited for 4th and 5th grade students. A seven-member curriculum advisory committee, comprised of three elementary teachers, one middle school, one high school teacher, and two curriculum consultants, helped develop this new kit.

It is presented in a self-contained, three-ring binder format, making it convenient to access and store all basic materials.

Paper Makes Wisconsin Great includes these components:

pencil.gif (256 bytes) Sample materials from Wisconsin paper industry facilities, including:
Wood chips, ready for the industrial pulpmaking process.
A piece of dry pulp. In a paper mill, huge bales of this material, called wetlap, are taken from storage and mixed with water to produce pulp for the papermaking machine.
A section of a paper machine wire, or forming material, where the water is drained from the slurry to form a wet sheet of paper.
A section of a paper machine felt, which transports the wet sheet to the press and drier sections to complete the initial papermaking process.
